LIFE FACTORY LIFE FACTORY Here comes one. I wonder what he’s thinking about. He’s got to be around twenty-seven I suppose and the smart casual dress gives a hint of lower clerical day duties. As he approached I got ready to merge with him and soon I’d begin to experience his mind. As he passed my seated position [...] more... Published on 08/15/2010
DECOY DECOY It was one of those rare English summer days when the sun actually shone. In fact it had been shining now for three consecutive days, and that afternoon was delightfully calm and dream-like. I’d been working in the garden, rather more idle than industriously, drifting aimlessly through the afternoon as it moved towards evening. Standing [...] more... Published on 08/15/2010
SONGS FROM THE WOOD SONGS FROM THE WOOD Despite years of studies, nobody had cracked the code. Many individuals and groups, looking at the puzzle from a multitude of different angles, had all failed to solve the riddle. Birdsong it seemed might never give up its secrets. Thomas Mills was one such researcher. He’d made a hobby of the subject [...] more... Published on 08/15/2010
REDWING REDWING An eerie light filled the bay below as the moon hung powerless in the darkened sky. Above on the cliffs alone I waited; I knew they’d be coming soon for I’d seen them before. I’d seen their ugly play unfurl a thousand times, and tonight I would silence them forever. Out to sea their prey [...] more... Published on 08/15/2010
| THE DANCE THE DANCE The sun fell like a hammer into the once turquoise sea and darkness was upon us in an instant. Of course the night offered no protection from those who sought to destroy us, as they already knew where, if not when we were. They also knew that I could see them; or rather see [...] more... | THE BOX THE BOX The box had been in the family for generations. Nobody knew exactly how many years that may have been, but it was recorded in an old diary belonging to my great grandmother. I often spent time reading her diary, and found her words and imaginings closely in tune with my own. To read of [...] more... Published on 08/15/2010 |
THE SURFER THE SURFER For my wife and I the county of Cornwall was an ideal holiday location. Situated in the far west of England, its rugged shores and spectacular beaches had always produced the most memorable times for us. Like many other tourists, part of our affection for Cornwall lay in its wild frontier spirit. There [...] more... Published on 08/15/2010
AND THERE WAS LIGHT AND THERE WAS LIGHT We as a race, were the essence of eternity. But there was only ever one race, which like time itself was both infinite and finite. All creatures and all time were merely parts of their respective wholes. For as a second might regard a minute as impossible, so does the cell of [...] more... Published on 08/15/2010
MAP OF AMERICA MAP OF AMERICA Map Of America <!– –> I’d always loved maps. In fact the walls of my office at home were covered with them. Almost every part of the globe was represented there with some areas even being duplicated as I acquired an occasional historical map. Behind this apparent obsession there was however a practical use. [...] more... Published on 08/15/2010
BLINDSIGHT In the cigarette smoke there were pictures. And as the smoke rose and dissipated, so the pictures faded and were gone. At the window a view of the old gate in the field unused. Beyond the gate the fields rolled on forever. These were the meadows for the pathways of the travelers or perhaps they were pathways for the meadows themselves untraveled. In the shadows of the sun lay memories. As within the pictures of the smoke or in the vision of an eye still closed, they wandered. Were the memories real with myself the shadows image. Or were the pictures, the viewer and the space between them, all but nothing. more... Published on 08/15/2010
